Our Privacy Promise
Last Updated: July 10, 2025
Your privacy is the most important thing to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and—most importantly—how we protect it.
1. What Information We Collect (and Why)
We only collect what we need to provide you with the Bud9et service.
- Your Account: When you sign up, we ask for your email address. We need this to create your account and communicate with you.
- Your Financial Data (The Important Part): To use Bud9et, you connect your bank accounts using a secure, industry-leading service called Plaid. Plaid gives us a read-only copy of your transaction history and account balances.
- We never see or store your bank login details. That information is handled securely by Plaid and never touches our servers. You can view Plaid's Privacy Policy to see how they handle your data.
- Payment Information: If you subscribe to a paid feature, your payment details are handled by our secure payment processor, Stripe.
- We never see or store your full credit card number. Stripe handles all payment processing, and their use of your information is governed by their own Privacy Policy.
- Technical Stuff: When you use the app, our servers automatically log some technical details (like your IP address). We only use this information to keep the service running smoothly and securely.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for a few key purposes—all designed to make Bud9et work for you:
- To Provide the Service: Creating your account, providing personalized insights, and enabling budgeting features.
- To Improve the Service: Analyzing anonymized technical and usage data to understand how our app is used, fix bugs, and make our service better.
- To Keep the App Secure: Protecting against fraud, abuse, and illegal activity.
- To Communicate with You: Answering your support questions and sending important account-related notices.
3. Who We Share Your Information With
This is simple: We will never sell your personal data. Period.
We only share your information with a few trusted partners who are essential for running the Bud9et app:
- Plaid: To securely connect to your bank accounts.
- Stripe: To handle payments for our paid features.
These partners are legally and contractually required to protect your data just as we do.
We may also share information under these specific circumstances:
- Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will notify you of any such deal and outline your choices.
- Legal Requirements: We will only share your information with law enforcement if we are legally compelled to do so by a court order or warrant; we do not provide data voluntarily.
4. How We Protect Your Information
We take security very seriously. As outlined in our formal Information Security Policy, we use industry-standard security measures, like data encryption, to protect your information. While no system is 100% impenetrable, we are fully committed to safeguarding your data.
5. Your Rights Over Your Data
You are in control of your information. In line with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you have the right to:
- See the personal information we have about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your account and all your data.
If you close your account, we will permanently delete all your personal data from our live systems within 30 days and instruct our third-party partners (like Plaid) to do the same. Please note that your data may persist in encrypted, off-site backups for up to one year, after which it is permanently destroyed. To exercise any of these rights, just send us an email.
6. Our Policy on Children
Bud9et is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make any changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
8. Questions?
If you have any questions about your privacy, please don't hesitate to ask.
